Neva was teaching in a one room school house, in New Haven, MI. One day
some of the 12th grade boys put something in her desk, that frightened
her (a frog maybe?). The next day James made her stay at home, and he
went to teach her class. There was an encounter with the offending
boy's, that ended with James throwing a coal shuttle at them. They
didn't cause any more problems after that. At one point James and Neva
were tennant farmers on James' parents farm.
