I am just now starting to put some of the pieces together for John Ray
and
Mary Ann Theresa Bashaw Cox. The Rays were on my Grandmother's side.
Ironically, I found my information through my Grandfather's side. One of
his
brothers married a Ray. I have been in correspondence with a Marguerite
Dawson, also a descendent of Amos L. Ray and Patty Allen, through John L.
Ray
and Mollie Cox.

John L. Ray is listed as a deaf-mute in the 1860 census.
Margaret Savilla Elizabeth Ray Hardy died of Brights Disease.
I am still sorting out some of the information I received. There are
some
family stories that don't seem to fit with other information that I have.
A
letter from J. G. "Grover" Ray in his later years (son of John L. Ray and
Mary Ann Bashaw Cox) states the following:
"My Father's family moved here from North Carolina. His father and
several
Brothers came down together and for some reason when they got to Georgia
they
decided to change their names, that is the way they spelled it, some
spelled
it Wray - Rhea - Rae - but my grandfather kept the old original way of
spelling it. All my fathers brothers and sisters moved to Texas
including my
grandfather. My father had married and decided to stay on in Ga."
