John Wheeler was, at age 68, in 28th NC Infantry Co. B. After more than
a year's service, at age 69, he was medically discharged--Due to 'Age and
a diseas(e) of the liver'.

John wheeler of capt. William B. Creasmon Company B, 29 Reg., N.C. Troops
( C.S.A.) was enlisted by Capt. William B. Creasmon 29 Regt. N.C. Troops
at Burnsville on the 3 day of July 1861 to serve one year, was born in
Washington County and state of VA, sixty eight years of age six feet 1
in. high - Fare complexion Hazle eyes Gray hair by profession when
enlisted a minister been unfit for duty. the constitution of the above
named soldier wa much inpard by reason of age and a diseas of the liver
cald dispepsia befor he came into the service the diet in camps not
suiting his diseas he has become entirely unfit for duty given in
duplicate at C. G. Tenn. the 15th day of May 1862. William B.
Creasmon Capt., Commanding Company

I certify that I examined the said John Wheeler of Capt Creasmons Company
29th Regt N. C. Troops and found him incapable of performing the duties
of a soldier because of a diseased leg from effects of fever and his age
( 69 yrs. ) he left the regt last Decr & has not returned but I am
confidant now that if he was here he would be of no service to the
Confederate Army. John Yancey Surgeon 29th Regt N.C. Troops P.S.
The above named soldier has a large field of labor in his profession
W.B.C.
