Elwin C. Wrisley, age 80, of Coleman, passed away quietly at his home on
July 20" 2001 after a lengthy illness with cancer.
God saw he was getting tired and a cure was not to be; so He put His arms
around him and whispered, "Come with Me." With tearful eyes we watched
him suffer, and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could
not make him stay. He had a strong will for life and up to the end, he
was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know him.
Elwin was born December 10, 1920 to Lloyd and Verna (Renner) Wrisley of
Coleman and lived there all his life. He graduated from the Coleman High
School in 1938.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. in England during WWII. He
worked briefly for Dow Chemical Company in Midland before he began
working for his brothers who owned the Silver Star Bus Line in Gladwin.
He then went to work at Consumers Energy in 1957 as a mechanic retiring
in 1982. He also owned and operated the Wrisley Shoe Repair in Coleman
and worked part?time for Bowland's Chevrolet Dealership.
Elwin was a creative man who could make almost anything with his hands.
He loved playing baseball, woodworking, gardening, music, sketching and
had a special interest in the history of Great Lakes Freighters and
researching family genealogy. He was a loving husband, father and
grandfather.
He leaves his wife, Evelyn, of 57 years; five children: Cynthia and Gene
Badgley of Beaverton, Barbara and Tom Dittenber of Pagosa Springs, CO,
Eugene and Joan Wrisley of St. Louis, Nancy Wrisley and fiance', Ron
Krouse and Robert and Carolyn Wrisley of Clare; six, grandchildren:
Stacie and Ryan Badgley, Erica and Brent Wrisley and Mitchell and Chad
Wrisley; two greatgrandchildren: Sierra and Alexandria; a brother, Lloyd
Albert and Joyce Wrisley of Gladwin and numerous nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Verna Wrisley, brothers, Wilbur
and Linwood Wrisley and a sister, Arlene Yakubison.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 23, 2001 from the
Faith United Methodist Church in Coleman, with the Rev. Joy Arthur
officiating. Interment will be in the Warren Township Cemetery, Coleman.
Friends may call at the O'Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc. Saturday from 6?8
P.M., Sunday from 2?4 and 6?8 P.M. and at the church on Monday starting
at 10 A.M. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider
